SEO for small businesses

“Build it and they will come!” Sorry, to be the bearer of bad news, but that just isn’t true. 96.55% of web pages don’t get any visitors.

If you want your ideal customers to discover your content — so you have the opportunity to convince them to buy from you — you must implement search engine optimisation (SEO) best practices. And SEO is even more important for small businesses as it enables you to show off what sets you apart from your competitors (your USP).

Whether you’re looking to improve your search rankings, drive more organic traffic, or build a trusted online presence, you’ll get there faster if you work with an SEO agency that specialises in SEO for small businesses. And we’d love to help you connect with your audience and grow your business.

Why you need SEO marketing

SEO is all about ensuring search engines can find and understand your content (so they can show your content to their users when it’s relevant) AND ensuring humans have a good experience on your site (so search engines know their users love your content). This also happens to make it easier for your ideal customers to find what they want on your site and encourages them to buy from you.

By optimising your site’s structure and content, and boosting your brand’s credibility, SEO ensures your business stands out when your ideal customers are searching for the products or services you offer. And when you incorporate SEO into your marketing mix, you increase the ROI of all your marketing efforts.

You need SEO services if:

Your website is lost in the crowd — Without SEO, it’s difficult to rise above the competition in search results. It’s effectively impossible if your competitors are investing in their own SEO. With SEO, you can be discovered by the right audience at the right time.

Icon of a web browser with a crossed-out 'AD' symbol, representing the high cost and temporary benefits of relying solely on paid advertising compared to SEO.

Paid ads are too costly — Relying solely on paid advertising for website traffic can eat into your marketing budget without providing long-term benefits. After all, paid ads only provide a benefit while you’re paying for them. Whereas SEO continues to pay dividends long after the work is done.

limited time and resources

You have limited time and resources — You can only wear so many hats. If you don’t have the time and expertise to optimise your site yourself, or the resources to hire an in-house SEO specialist, partnering with an experienced SEO agency that understands the needs of small businesses will allow you to focus on what you do best, so you can grow your business with confidence, knowing your SEO is in expert hands.

Invest in quality optimisation from an Australian SEO agency

Bargain regret is real. Every month we hear from businesses that haven’t seen the results they expected after buying cheap SEO services from dodgy agencies (usually in a place with a low cost of living — we won’t name names but we’re sure you know the places). While we can’t guarantee you’ll rank #1 for all your target keywords (no one can guarantee that because you can’t control what your competitors will do), we do promise to use proven strategies to improve your online visibility and position your business in the best light. And we promise to be transparent about what we’re doing for you, so you’ll always know where your money is going.

Small business SEO services and SEO packages

We offer a wide range of SEO services to cover the most important aspects of your website’s performance.

SEO services

On-page SEO services

This covers everything on your page that visitors see and interact with. On-page SEO is the foundation of any successful strategy, ensuring your site is both user-friendly and search-engine-optimised.

Inclusions
  • Heading optimisation: Optimising your page titles and other headings helps people navigate your content and allows search engines to understand what your content is most focused on
  • Image optimisation: Sizing and compressing images and adding SEO-friendly and meaningful alt tags improves page loading times and accessibility, both of which are important ranking signals for Google and other search engines (and they give your audience a better experience so they’re not driven to competing sites)
  • Content creation and optimisation: Creating (or updating) engaging, keyword-rich content that attracts users and ranks well is a critical method of helping your site rank for additional keywords — this goes beyond upgrading headings and image SEO to optimising the entire piece of content
  • Internal linking: Strategically connecting pages within your site enhances navigation (for humans and search engines), distributes ranking power, and funnels your audience to conversion copy that encourages them to make a purchase (or book a sales call etc.)
Off-page SEO services

To rank well, search engines need to understand and display your site effectively. Off-page SEO includes activities you do on your own site that influence your audience’s first impressions of your site (potentially even your brand) and help humans and search engines navigate your site.

Inclusions
  • Search listing copy: Writing compelling title tags and meta descriptions leads to better search listings, which encourage users to click on your site in search results, and more importantly, gives your audience a great first impression of your site (and if people haven’t found you on social media or anywhere else, that first impression of your site may also be the first impression of your brand)
  • Social media copy: When other people share your content on social media, you have no control over what they say about it. But, we can create social media cards that are included as link previews by default when your content is shared by others, helping you control the narrative.
  • Site structure optimisation: Organising your website’s hierarchy effectively makes it easier for users and search engines to navigate your site, which improves the user experience and subsequently, your search rankings
  • Schema markup: Adding structured data to your webpages allows search engines to display rich search results by augmenting standard search listings with high-value extras like star ratings, prices, and images, which can massively improve your click-through rates

Note, while some of these activities are conducted on the page (e.g. meta tags and schema markup) so can also fall under the category of ‘on-page SEO’, they’re not directly visible by users on the web page, so we find it’s useful for our clients if we group them with other off-page activities.

Off-site SEO services

Boost your website’s credibility and authority in the eyes of search engines by enhancing how it’s referenced across the web.

Inclusions
  • Backlink building: Securing high-quality, trusted backlinks signals your site’s authority to search engines, and improves your rankings
  • Google Business Profile optimisation: If you serve a specific geographic area, your Google Business Profile (previously Google My Business) can allow you to show up in map results
  • Local citations: Ensuring your business is listed consistently and accurately on local directories and review platforms helps build a consistent brand and also gives you additional backlinks
  • Social signals: You can boost traffic to your site and increase awareness of your brand by promoting your content on social media, and the resultant social signals can encourage search engines to boost your search rankings
  • Platform-specific SEO: Your website isn’t the only place we can conduct SEO activities — we also offer SEO services for YouTube, Amazon, and other digital channels
Technical SEO for WordPress sites

Technical SEO addresses the behind-the-scenes elements of your site that impact performance and searchability. While we don’t minify code because most small businesses won’t derive a significant benefit from such fine-tuning, we do optimise, and provide advice on optimising, basic technical aspects of WordPress where there’s a significant gain to be had. We can also work with your web developer to do further fine-tuning of your technical SEO if required.

Inclusions
  • Site speed optimisation: Improving your page loading times delivers a better user experience and higher rankings
  • Mobile responsiveness: Ensuring your site works seamlessly on all devices provides an excellent experience for mobile users and encourages search engines to prioritise your site in their search results
  • Indexing support: We can fix issues that prevent search engines from crawling and indexing your website effectively

Why choose K. M. Wade

We don’t offer cookie-cutter SEO services — we craft strategies designed to help you achieve real results. Here’s why clients choose us:

  • Australia-based SEO agency: Conducting SEO activities in a highly populated area like the US is very different to conducting the same activities in less populated areas. We’re experienced in achieving great organic search results in areas where many keywords don’t have high volumes. (We’ve done plenty of US businesses too, though.) We also have high standards of quality assurance and performance.
  • Proven results: We’ve helped businesses like yours rank higher, drive traffic, and grow revenue. Check out some of our case studies to see some examples.
  • Tailored strategies: One reason why cheap SEO agencies fail to deliver anticipated results is because they use a set formula and try to fit all businesses into it even if it’s not suitable for that business’s niche or circumstances. Every business is different, so we customise the approach we take to your exact needs, ensuring it’s the best option given your niche, your goals, your budget, and what your competitors are doing.
  • Full transparency: With us, you’ll never find yourself complaining that you’re paying thousands of dollars in SEO fees and have no idea what that money is buying. We tell you how we spend every dollar you pay to us and we tell you what impact that’s having on your business.
  • More than just SEO: While we’re optimising your content, we’ll also use conversion copywriting techniques to increase the number of visitors who buy from you, or book a call with you, or do whichever action you want them to take when they get to your website. This is a major advantage of working with a full-funnel marketing agency rather than a straight SEO agency, as what you do with traffic once it gets to your website is just as important as the process of getting people to visit your site.

Questions you might have about SEO services

How long does SEO take to show results?

SEO is a long-term strategy. While some improvements can be seen in the first 1–3 months, most significant results take 6–12 months. That timeframe is longer from brand new businesses.

Do you work with small businesses?

Yes! We specialise in helping small businesses grow their online presence, even with limited budgets.

Do you guarantee you’ll get me to position #1?

We have no control over what your competitors do, so we can’t guarantee any specific results. We will implement industry best practices to maximise your chances of ranking in the top 3 spots in the organic search results. And we’ll help you get the most out of the traffic you get, which increases the return on your investment.

Can I get a refund if I don’t achieve the results I’m aiming for?

Before we answer that question, let us ask you some questions… If you visit your dentist every 6 months for a checkup and preventative clean and at some point get cavities and need fillings, do you expect a refund from your dentist? If you have regular checkups with your doctor because you’re hoping to avoid heart disease and then you suffer a heart attack, do you expect a refund from your GP?

As with most services, when you purchase SEO services from us, you’re paying for our time and expertise, not for specific results. While we firmly believe we can deliver great results for all our clients (we won’t take your project on if we don’t believe we can help you), there may be times when forces outside out control prevent you from achieving the organic performance you’re looking for. So, unfortunately, we don’t offer refunds if you’re not satisfied with the results we deliver.

I thought Google doesn’t like businesses paying for backlinks?

You’re absolutely right. Google uses backlinks as a measure of how much other businesses trust a given site. If the site pays other sites to link to them, backlinks no longer act as an accurate proxy metric for trust. This is why Google frowns upon paying for backlinks.

However, there is nothing wrong with reaching out to a website’s owner and asking them to link to your content if they find it offers value to their audience. The problem is that’s very time consuming and most small businesses don’t have the time and resources to commit to contacting lots of sites and asking them to give a backlink.

When you purchase one of our SEO packages that includes backlinks, you’re paying us to do that outreach on your behalf. And that doesn’t contravene Google’s guidelines.
